RAID Server Repair

DELL SERVER RAID:

I am using a Dell Server, model 2850, but I am not sure of the type. The drives in the server have been used for data storage, and the first and second disks are configured to RAID 1. The remaining 3 disks have configured to RAID 5. However, I have an alert from the Event Viewer which suggests that there is a problem with these drives. There is a repeated Event which says that one of the drives has a ‘predictive failure’, with the physical disk listed as 4. I don’t know if this relates to the specific disk located in bay 4, or if there is another number sequence which relates to the drives in a different way.

LACIE SERVER WITH RAID DRIVES:

I have a LaCie server which contains a number of hard drives. This system has information on it that is not backed up anywhere else, and so the data needs to be recovered from the drives before I can proceed. The LaCie has clearly failed, and none of the drives are responding in the array. I have decided to take out the drives and try to extract the data. I had four disks, out of a 5 disk array, connected to Windows, and had set up a system so that the computer would reconstruct the RAID and retrieve the data. The main problem is that the Windows desktop will not recognise the drive, and I can see them in BIOS, but they are not listed as active. The reconstructor also cannot see them. I tried to use another software program to solve the problem, but it said that there was no disk hierarchy found, and so the data could not be retrieved. All of the smaller files from the computer can be found, but the large ones, containing the data I need, are missing. I need to be able to recover the data on those disks, so that I can get at least most of it back.
